WHOLE WEEK ATTENDANCE & EARLY DEPARTURE RATIONALE
(For Mini, Junior, Chi Rho and CYF Camps)

Please read carefully and thoughtfully.

The Camp and Conference Ministry offers a powerful and meaningful experience of God’s holy presence in Christian community.  Our attention is turned from worldly thoughts and events to the tasks of intentionally being with God in everything we do.  The camp experience grows in meaning as the week progresses.  Curriculum and program activities are intentionally structured to complement and enhance the camp and conference experience.

Camp is a time to turn from the calls and demands of the world and turn to the wonderful and special presence of God.  Much of the power of camp is rooted in the fact that the whole community is on the same track of turning from the world and toward God.  The events, cares and concerns of the world are very persistent and take a toll on the camp experience whenever they become a focus of attention.

When campers arrive late to camp or leave early, they miss more than is apparent at first glance. Not only do they miss some of the time of camp, they also miss important steps in the camp process.  They miss encounters with campers and staff, they miss participation in the program steps, and they miss opportunities for encounters with the Holy Spirit in the context of camp.  The experience of camp is compromised.

Late arrivals and early departures also affect the experience of camp for everyone else during the week.  Attention is directed away from the camp experience and toward the distraction of a late arrival or early departure.

In light of the importance of the camping experience, commitment to spending the whole week at camp is a worthy consideration, even when it means choosing not to participate in other activities that are considered very important.

The Camp and Conference Committee asks that you please note that the above information has been summarized and added to both the Camper and Parent/Guardian Covenant located on the Camp Registration Form.

We look forward to seeing you at camp!
